Night Tripping at St Hotel
What’s not to love about Asian street cuisine? It brings so much diversity and varies tremendously by region – from dumplings to noodles, stir-fried Asian greens, curry and a variety of meats and seafood, the dishes are rich, colourful and bring together some of the best seasonings and spices.
Melbourne food lovers were able experience a snapshot of Asia as the St. Hotel carried the momentum from the success of Day Tripping and brought together four of the best Asian restaurants for Night Tripping – an evening to enjoy some of the best Asian street food. The atmosphere was pulsating to say the least. Close to 700 people brought their appetites and enjoyed the good beats and funky circus acts.
The vendors: Banoi, Hanoi Hannah, Saigon Sally, Tokyo Tina and the host, St. Hotel, pulled out all the stops to give us a truly Asian experience. The dishes on the menu were:
A spicy red curry of braised pork with bamboo shoots, sweet Thai basil and green peppercorns dished up by St. Hotel.
Bite size beef brisket bao with pickles and kewpie mayonnaise served up from Tokyo Tina.
Banoi created its version of Bánh cuốnwith exotic mushroom crepe, sticky soy and Chinese doughnuts.
Hanoi Hannah had an aromatic poached chicken Pho. All the veggies gave this dish so much colour plus they had plenty of sriracha on hand to appease those who love spice
- Saigon Sally, who is well regarded for their authentic Vietnamese dishes, prepared a coconut prawn ceviche with sweet potato and betel leaf.
The downside (if this could be considered one) is that we were almost too full to eat gelato from Pidapipo Gelateria! The key word is almost. We managed to grab a few bites of the coconut gelato to finish the night off.
It was an electric mix of vendors, spectacular food and great vibes. Looking forward to the next one!
