Melba @ The Langham Buffet for Your Festive Catch Ups
The World Loves Melbourne was invited to imbibe the delights of Melba at The Langham, famous for being Melbourne's best buffet. One of the best things to do in Melbourne is to visit the legendary Melba buffet!
There's buffets and there's buffets. Some plainly suck due to average food and service; the emphasis being on quantity. The buffet at Melba is on another planet, featuring world class chef stations where specialist chefs will cook you up fresh exceptional dishes, and where the empahsis is on quality as well as range.
Like the 5 star class of The Langham as a hotel, the Melba restaurant delivers when it comes to class and style. It's a worthy restaurant adjunct to the hotel.
For a start the views to the Southgate boulevard are engaging. Simply a great location. Spacious with a stylish fit out, Melba is the perfect place for your festive catch up.
Melba is a cacophony of fine dining buffet; from exceptional seafood, to sushi and sashimi station, a roast carvery with exceptional range, a grill with rotating meat selection, modern Asian including fresh noodle dishes and dumplings, the Duck pancakes, Indian tandoor oven, Italian pasta, massive dessert cabinet with Lindt chocolate fountain. Chefs cook up dishes in front of you with a sense of professionalism and theatre.
We enjoyed loading up on the first class seafood; chilled oysters, King prawns and Blue swimmer crabs followed by high class sashimi of sweet prawns, South Australian Kingfish and New South Wales Tuna!
Grilled Lobster Tail from the Char Grill was a highlight; not just for the high class lobster but for the way it was cooked to perfection and the savvy sauce that complemented. We also couldn't resist a delicious Five-spiced Duck pancake; thin pancake with generous amount of duck and sauce.
Back for more lobster and Duck pancake; as you do at a world class buffet...
We also imbibed the Indian Spice Kitchen offerings; Achari chicken tikka, Lamb Rogan Josh and made to order naan. The made to order naan is not to be underestimated; cheesy bliss from the oven.
Also to note they have a smart wine list, with the manager a sommelier in a former life.
Head for the carvery as we did; sumptuous meats beautifully cooked, including Roast turkey, Angus strip loin beef, and Honey glazed leg of ham.
Then choose from a large array of fresh quality salads and refreshing choices.
Irresistable was the freshly cooked Szechuan Prawns from the Turbo Woks and the Sui Mai dumplings from the Dumplings Bar.
We couldn't fit in any of the Italian cusine which looked amazing, nor the compelling cheese offering including the washed rind King river gold.
We had to leave room for dessert!
Warm Christmas pudding for the festive season!
The M&M Naan Bread at Melba is legendary! You need to try it to see why. Indulgent.
Then there's the Lindt chocolate fountain and the Connoisseur ice creams. We felt like kids excited over this.
Slip your stawberries on the skewers and let the chocolate cascade all over...
Melba at The Langham is open daily from 6.30am to 10.30pm, serving a full buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. There's also a high tea selection including Wedgwood High Tea and Chocolate Indulgence High Tea currently on offer.
We had a fabulous time, including exceptional service from wait staff and cefs on the night, thanks to Melba at The Langham. Get on it!
