GAME OF RHONES: A BATTLE OF SEVEN KINGDOMS #WINEISCOMING
This winter comes a tale of seven kingdoms, where noble wineries from across the lands fight it out in an epic vinous battle for control of the Iron Rhone.
After sell-out events in Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane and Auckland in 2015, popular wine event Game of Rhones will return this year for an epic fourth season, it’s biggest and best yet, and will travel land and sea to Perth and Wellington for the first time. The Melbourne event is set for Saturday 18th June, 1pm-6pm (ROYAL PASS entry from 11am) Meat Market 5 Blackwood Street, North Melbourne.
Game of Rhones is a combative celebration of the classic grape varieties of the Rhone Valley in France. Think plenty of Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvedre, Carignan, Cinsault and a splash of, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussane to name just a few. With over 40 of the best producers from Australia and New Zealand, including Shaw + Smith, Paxton Biodynamic Wines, Yarra Yering, Olivers Taranga, Henschke, Tarrawarra Estate and more, there will be over 100 wines on tasting (per event) and an even bigger offering of hearty fare than ever before to cure your hunger pains.
For those keen on gaining ancient knowledge, the Rhone Bar will again be the place to taste wines from ‘Beyond the Wall’ (ie: the Rhone Valley). Manned by some of the individual kingdoms best sommeliers (aka Spirit Guides), they will be on hand to talk attendees through this vinous homeland, offering wines by the glass at virtually cost price and help tailor make guests vinous experience. Guests are encouraged to taste their way around the room and cast their vote for the Peoples Choice award by pitting variety, style, house and region against each other to see who will reign supreme for the chance to win some EPIC door prizes from PLUMM glasses. Wines will also be available to purchase on the day at cellar door prices (except Brisbane).
Attendees will be tasting from, and taking home, the epic PLUMM VINTAGE REDa wine glass ($30RRP)– the biggest ever wine glass for Bottle Shop Concepts events. Size matters. This year will see the debut of the Royal Pass, where a limited number of wineloving VIPs will have exclusive pre-event access to the wineries between 11am- 1pm, all the way through until the event ends at 6pm. It will also give access to special bottles kept aside by the winemakers just for royalty, a food voucher for any one of the food producers, and 3 wine tastings from the Rhone Bar.
With the legendary blind (folded) tasting ‘torture chamber’ back again (a must at Game of Rhones), an enthusiasm for the wine producers to dress in theme, as well as attendees for that matter, Game of Rhones is set for another monstrous campaign. GAME. ON. *Please note that the full line up of producers will vary from city to city. Please head to www.gameofrhones.com for a full list of exhibitors for each city.
