Experience a cake and tea affair at Mary Eats Cake
There is something very alluring about using an elegant cup and saucer to enjoy a good cup of tea.
When you pair that alongside a range scrumptious bite-sized treats and charming décor you’ll find Mary Eats Cake, located in the heart of Brunswick, as a perfect place to have a memorable high tea experience.
Mary Eats Cake is no stranger to the tea culture. Formally known as Impala and Peacock and Brunswick Tea house, the venue still serves the quality Impala & Peacock artisan teas created by Tea Sommelier Sarah de Witt and has now added French trained Pastry Chef Jessica Hillbrick who has created a gourmet menu that’s guaranteed to impress!
The World Loves Melbourne was invited back to experience the expansion of the venue including two spacious function rooms on the upper level with artsy framed pictures, lots of natural light and glamorous vintage tea ware.
You can expect three different teas to match the iconic three tier platter with a range of hot, cold, savoury and sweet delights. The Brunswick Breakfast, which is by far one of the best teas on the market, is a blend of five different black teas, light mahogany in colour and silky smooth to taste.
We also tasted the Mint Variation tea, which includes peppermint, lemongrass spearmint, lemon verbana, sweet lemon balm and a touch of lavender buds. This was a perfect pair with our sweet dishes especially our scones. Now, the highlight of any high tea (besides the tea) is the scones and Mary Eats Cake delivered! These were served with fresh cream and raspberry jam, slightly warmed and crisp on the outside and light on the inside.
There were other delightful treats including the roasted pumpkin, raspberry, beetroot and goat’s cheese sandwich on spinach bread, crispy polenta squares with tomato quinoa salsa, and the salted lemon meringue pie. Admittedly, desserts and health don't usually go hand-in-hand, but Mary Eats Cake also offers a vegan and gluten-free option for an additional $6 per person which means everyone gets to indulge!
Our final tea of the morning was a blossoming jasmine flower white tea. The visual enjoyment of watching the tea bud can be quite thrilling! The tea was a delicate and slightly sweet floral tea and a perfect way to end our morning.
The new space allows people to come in with one or 20 of your closest family and friends. And! If you want the High Tea experience to come to you, Mary Eats Cake delivers the High Tea experience for groups of 20 guests or more, direct to your door or venue of choice and includes all the fixings: crockery, vintage tea ware, service staff, decadent food, and fresh pots of tea.
