Farro Pizzeria & Cucina Opens - Authentic Pizzeria in Fitzroy
Farro Pizzeria & Cucina has opened up in Fitzroy after the success of Pizza Farro in Thornbury. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to experience the joys of Farro Pizzeria & Cucina on a fine Sunday afternoon. For a start the staff are warm and engaging and enthusiastic about the restaurant. We perused the beverages menu but for me a beer is a great match with pizza, especially an Italian beer with Italian style pizza.
Open Fitzroy style restaurant with natural light and counter with views to eclectic Brunswick St. Or sit at the outside tables. Slight grunge feel is perfect for this part of town.
The menu is wide ranging and you can engage in Antipasti including Polenta Chips and Arancini. Or how about a selection of olives?
Open kitchen, exposed brick, plants and stacked cans of tomatoes, the fit out is simple and even homely. We were here mainly for the pizza and we were not disappointed!
Key to any great pizza is the ingredients. Farro clearly uses high quality ingredients, many of which are organic. An example is the quality of the prawns on the Gamberi seafood pizza. This pizza was a highlight with sun dried tomato, S Marzano DOP tomatoes, Fior de Latte mozzarella, fresh chilli, garlic, basil and E.V.O oil. Highly recommended!
We ordered several pizzas to be able to judge the quality and were highly impressed. Another key ingredient of pizza of course is the flour/dough. Farro uses 100% organic spelt flour which makes a big difference. The pizza based was wonderfully chewy yet with some crispiness, as we love it. Yet you don't feel bloated after eating these pizzas. The combination of spelt flour and organic ingredients means you leave satiated, satisfied but not bloated and "heavy" (you know what I'm talking about).
Pizza overdrive! If you're like me you long for something authentic. Look no further than Farro in Fitzroy!
Up close and personal. Gluten free options are also available.
Vegetarians rejoice! We chose a "non meat or seafood" pizza and it was perhaps our favourite. The Zucca is a cracker pizza featuring S Marzano DOP tomatoes, Meredith's Goats Cheese, roasted pumpkin, walnuts, fresh rocket and E.V.O oil. The crispy and chewy base combined wonderfully with the creamy goat's cheese and pumpkin, with walnuts and rocket bringing more crunch.
Farro also makes a great cocktail!
Capriciossa featured S Marzano DOP tomatoes, Fior de Latte mozzarella, smoked leg ham, mushrooms, and Kalamata olives. Another joyous pizza with quality ingredients.
We always test a pizza joint based on its Margherita pizza. The Margherita featured S Marzano DOP tomatoes, Fior de Latte Mozzarella, basil and E.V.O oil.
Devouring authentic Italian pizza using our hands of course.
Desserts impressed also with this Tiramisu (above) and Nutella Calzone (below) both crowd pleasers.
Farro Pizzeria & Cucina is an excellent addition to Fitzroy for those who love authentic Italian pizza and who value quality ingredients. The restaurant and staff are cheery and the menu is wide ranging (what pizza to choose?). We found parking easy on Brunswick St and we loved the joy and simplicity of the experience! Highly recommended.
