Extraordinary Wine Tasting at Yarra Yering
Wine tasting at Yarra Yering has to be one of the best experiences of the Yarra Valley. In a region that offers excellent wine choices, we cut to the chase and visited Yarra Yering, a premium wine destination.
For a start the cellar door is compelling with gorgeous views. There are 3 tasting flights available at reasonable cost - current vintage, museum tasting, and the premium tasting. It was never in question we would do the premium tasting. In fact we enjoyed all 3 tastings. Our friends from overseas were impressed with the quality and range of the wines.
Here's cheers! The whites at Yarra Yering are a standout, not just the reds. We particularly enjoyed the Chardonnay.
The team at Cellar Door is top notch and Cellar Door Manager Elita is a gem and is a wine aficionado herself, with sophisticated palate and excellent knowledge of the wine and region.
Yarra Yering is one of the oldest and most beautiful vineyards in Victoria’s Yarra Valley with 28 hectares of vines located at the foot of the Warramate Hills. Established in 1969 by Dr Bailey Carrodus, the 1973 vintage saw production of the first vintage of Dry Red Wine No. 1 and Dry Red Wine No. 2. Yarra Yering quickly gained an international reputation for quality and individuality and paved the way for other Yarra Valley wineries.
Yarra Yering cellar door has a touch of class with inviting panoramas all around. We love the old bottles perched above the fireplace (active in cold weather).
Must-try wines include famous Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No 1 and Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No 2, as well as Carrados premium range. Current vintage wines are superb, with 2017 Winemaker of the Year Sarah Crowe on fire.
It's fun to choose your favourite among the bevvy of fabulous wines.
There's a lot we love about the Yarra Valley but if you had to break it down to a select number of memorable experiences, the Yarra Yering tasting would be at the top of the list. Our overseas friends purchased a good deal of the wines, and there are pricing benefits for purchases to destinations outside of Australia (tax benefits). Yarra Yering uses DHL to transport the wine.
Two great tastings - Yarra Yering Dry Red Wine No 2 and the Agincourt Cabernet Malbec blend.
The cellar door cat was basking in the corner of the room, having perused many tastings.
The Yarra Yering Tasting is one of the best things to do in the Yarra Valley hands down (or in this case up!).
