Good Beer Week 2018 Set To Be Massive
Good Beer Week launches from 11-20 May so it's time to get on board! Not just for foodies and beer connoisseurs, Good Beer Week has ensured there’s action aplenty with their Good Times stream. Marrying local and international brewers with live music and activities, these fun-loving events are perfect for a night out with your mates. This is one of the highlights of the year for The World Loves Melbourne.
New York’s finest brewery, Brooklyn Brewery, and iconic laneway venues Section 8 and Ferdydurke are teaming up for the biggest Brooklyn Block Party (Sat 19 May 2:00pm-late) to grace Melbourne. Taking inspiration from the Brooklyn Zoo and Coney Island, the laneways will transform into a celebration of Brooklyn’s music, street art, food and culture.
Elsewhere in Melbourne, the Rochester Hotel brings together four breweries and four styles of music at Taste The Noise (Friday 18 May, 7.30-late), find out what rock, punk or event mariachi tastes like at this unique beer and music pairing night.
For those with a competitive streak, Good Beer Week’s rivalry events are sure to get you fired up. Take on KAIJU! Brewery and Loop Project space and bar staff in KAIJU’s Ultimate Mario Kart Challenge (Sun 13 May 3:00pm-6:00pm). Race for your chance at glory whilst enjoying half price beers finished off with a rooftop BBQ overlooking Melbourne.
Alternatively, catch a movie with at The Lido Cinema with a good beer in hand at the Exit Film Night (Monday 14 May, 7.30pm-late), or enjoy Beers, Bands & Burgers at Fury & Son’s newly opened brewery in Keilor Park (Saturday 12 May, 7pm-11pm).
Good Beer Week has also got music lovers covered with Cans & Bands at the Farm (Fri 18 May 6:30pm-late) at Collingwood Children’s Farm. Presented by Mountain Goat, cold tinnies will be on offer, as Cable Ties and Suss Cunts play live from the unique barn venue. If you’re also a foodie, Swine and Steins! (Wed 16 May 5:00pm-Late) at Bluebonnet Barbeque is the place to be, serving up an old worldly night of live music, food trucks and Barrow Boys Brewery beer.
Other featured events include Knock Offs (Sun 20 May 6:00pm-Late) at Grace Darling Hotel, showcasing some of Melbourne’s best femme and non-binary acts.
Bring your red beanies to The Life Aquatic: Brew + Zissou (Thu 17 May 7:30pm-late) and join Moon Dog Craft Brewery and Tastemakers for a one-off screening of Wes Anderson’s ‘The Life Aquatic’. To cap off the night screening Moon Dog Brewery and Tastemakers will be debuting a specially crafted Zissou brew to curb all those mid movie cravings.
Good Beer Week is an independent and not-for-profit festival that celebrates and promotes the renaissance that craft beer is enjoying globally. Since festival’s inception in 2011, its central aim is to promote good beer and the community and culture that surround it.
