Shanklin Cafe Impresses in Hawthorn
Shanklin Cafe is an impressive destination for those who love extra finesse with their brunch and a stylish vibe. Grab a park and walk into a converted 19th century terrace property with a charming frontage featuring large tables for groups. Inside discover a industrial look, with awesome vibe and classy fit out.
A highlight at Shanklin Cafe is the Sweet Corn Fritters - excellent crunch on the outside and a delicious hearty dish. Add salmon or bacon - I can recommend the salmon. With so many fritters fans in Melbourne this dish is right up there in fritter heaven.
Baked Egg Shakshuka with red peppers, cherry tomato, mushrooms and goats cheese with sourdough is a Middle Eastern style hit. With added side of salmon. A rustic rewarding dish (normally also has chorizo but this was removed for a vego version). Pretty as it is delicious this dish received a rave reaction from the bloggers table.
Shanklin is one the lips of many for it's honest and attractive menu and hospitality flair. It's been a great addition to Hawthorn.
Owner Frank tells us this is his first business - you wouldn't know it as Shanklin exudes the confidence of a cafe behemoth. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to a bloggers event at Shanklin where we got to sample a plethora of great dishes. Every dish was top notch, generous portions and a joy.
Here's another version of the Corn Fritters this time with bacon instead of salmon. Also comes with poached eggs, guacamole salsa, coriander and yoghurt.
Shanklin offers modern Aussie cuisine, and some brunch classics with their twist, all done extremely well. A wide range of dishes brings appeal for a demanding Melbourne brunch public. We love an all day menu and Shanklin delivers with both breakfast and lunch dishes available.
A showstopper was the Portobello Mushroom dish. A dynamic dish that features panko crumbed with zaatar spice, tahini yoghurt, roasted capsicum, spinach, halloumi topped with two poached eggs & chilli oil.
Signature dish Eggs and Shanklish - eggs with fresh herbs, cherry tomatoes, spring onion, wilted spinach & mint, with bacon added. Not to mention a side of salmon. A modern day Melbourne brunch dish.
All dishes were top notch.
Shanklin is famous for Nutella-stuffed pancakes, for which Instagrammers are grateful (just turn up the colour saturation), featuring strawberries grilled banana & Oreo crumble (yes that's right) served with an indulgent scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Mojitos! Thanks Frank!
Cake heaven.
Coffee is taken seriously here. Blends from Kenya, Panama and Guatemala change on a regular basis, and the Synesso machine gets a fair workout. Can't wait to re-visit this cafe foodie haven.
