Giro D'Italia Upstairs
Giro D'Italia is a top notch Italian restaurant in Melbourne making a huge impression since it opened in 2019, with its regional rustic Italian fare. The restaurant has an exciting development earmarked for August focussing on Italian cities. Dom from Giro D'Italia combines his two great passions, Italian regional food and the Giro D'Italia bike race. Having already kicked goals as a new kid on the block in Carlton Dom is expanding with Giro D'Italia Upstairs.
An exciting concept, Giro D'Italia is offering diners value for money dining upstairs in the charming bluestone building that is Giro D'Italia, with a theme of Italian cities.
True to the focus on regional Italian dining, Dom is now honing in on Italian cities. Every 3 months there will be a theme change to reflect on Italian cities, their food and culture. The concept kicks off in August with the theme of Rome. For only $30 per person diners can book a table and be treated to antipasto with a touch of Rome (think artichokes) and share 2-3 pastas served in a copper pot. It's top notch and relaxed Italian dining designed to share, with drinks an extra charge.
On the drinks front, Dom has it covered with his bespoke wine list and a unique presentation of drinks such as Negronis and Spritz.
We are hearing that other cities to be featured after Rome include Naples and Palermo.
Choice of cities to be featured is not ad hoc but depends on seasons and seasonal produce, for example in summer Dom will tend towards northern cities. Bookings will be available on the Monday of the week between 9am to 12 noon to book for that week. Giro D'Italia also doubles as a popular upstairs function space so there are times during each week when the space is devoted to functions.
Another exciting development is the theme of the Giro D'Italia bike race will be taken to another level. Already the downstairs restaurant celebrates this iconic race with bicycles and memorabilia but this will be taken to another level with the Giro D'Italia Upstairs. Story goes that Dom spent the whole night until 8am after service connecting with a Giro D'Italia champion who visited his restaurant. We are likely to see original bicycles and more memorabilia from the race adorn the restaurant.
A media dinner for each city theme will also feature a Nonna at the table speaking about the city featured (an event I'm keen to attend).
Plan your visit for August to Giro D'Italia Upstairs.
