Bankvale Run Restaurant at Marnong Estate
Bankvale Run Restaurant at Marnong Estate is a revelation so close the city of Melbourne and to Tullamarine airport. You won't believe the quality, size and scale of this major offering so accessible to Melburnians and also tourists. The culinary experience in Bankvale Run restaurant under the leadership of top Executive chef Adam Upton is top notch and marries well with the striking sweeping elevated views. You can see for mile and miles out to the Macedon Ranges. The World Loves Melbourne was invited for lunch at Bankvale Restaurant on a perfect Friday winter's day. We were highly impressed if not blown away. What a gem for Victoria and so close to the city!
Spectacular Bankvale Restaurant is modern and welcoming with Italian and French influences and the odd touch of Asian spice. Staff tell us the sunsets are stunning almost every night.
Marnong Estate has the feel of a cool resort. We couldn't believe it was only a year old given the scale and development, and there are big plans for more. It's the sort of place to casually visit but also to stay and enjoy all the facilities.
Interestingly with Yarra valley on our doorstep where we live in the eastern suburbs, it was the same time for us to get to Marnong Estate. Which means Marnong Estate comes into tour thinking when looking for a winery visit or entertaining "out of towners".
Marnong Estate Shiraz was silky and matched with all the food due to its vanilla nuanced tannins.
A Half kilo of Pt Arlington Mussels cooked in Marnong Estate Chardonnay, Greenhouse chilli, tomato sugo, confit garlic, Iranian saffron, coriander with handmade focaccia is a must order. The mussels are outstanding and you will find yourself mopping up the flavoursome broth with the bread. Rustic and rewarding dish.
Wood fired bread with Mount Zero marinated olives, flamed red along with pepper and feta dip was perfect with the wine.
Wood fired bread with vine smoked butter.
Barramundi Cone Bay was a spectacular dish with a bed of chickpeas, Roma tomatoes, coriander, roasted hazelnuts, pomegranate.
Steaks are a specialty and the Special of the day Porterhouse steak with mash and seasonal truffles was melt in your mouth, and we highly recommend adding the surf option of large prawns.
Sides are top notch including the chips and greens.
Executive chef Adam Upton working wonders in the kitchen and overseeing culinary expansion on the site. He likes to keep it local in terms of produce and he also likes to honour the locals who patronise Bankvale Run and Marnong Estate.
Dessert also hit the high notes with our Chef's selection including the popular Sticky Date pudding.
Adam took us on a tour showing us much of the property and speaking of future plans. And the service we received during our visit was excellent.
Views are extraordinary. The Estate sits high on the hills with expansive views overlooking the valley between Deep Creek through to Emu Creek and the surrounding Macedon Ranges and is located on an operational farm producing first class Angus Cattle, as well as a winery.
Stunning elevated views. Staff told them they love to see the weather coming in. We picked a perfect Winter's day.
Steak cooked over flamed hot volcanic stones. Choose from the range of Signature steaks (many featuring top Gippsland beef) or from mains including Potato Gnocchi, Linguini Marinara, Free Range Chicken, Black Angus Beef Cheek, Braised Banjo Lamb Shoulder and the popular Marnong's Porchetta.
Spectacular food and wine offering.
Dry Aged meat is a highlight.
We were blown away by these world class facilities in Melbourne's northern suburbs. We noted on the drive to Marnong Estate the sheer amount of housing development nearby, surely one of the fastest growing areas in Australia. Honestly, Melbourne is expanding and this is where the growth is. We could picture many people visiting Marnong Estate from these new suburbs. A local and vibrant destination for the local community. Already we hear Bankvale Run is well served by enthusiastic locals.
Located on 1,100 acres and only 15 minutes from Tullamarine Airport, Marnong Estate offers size and scope that is not found in any other hospitality and leisure destinations in regional Victoria making it Melbourne’s one-stop destination for local, interstate and international visitors. We hear there are groups of international visitors that come each week on tours straight from Tullamarine to get a slice of Australian winery action in a pristine countryside environment.
Marnong Estate offers historic homestead accommodation, 250 guest capacity Event Space, the 250-seat Bankvale Run restaurant, a vineyard, farmers market and operational farm producing first class Angus Cattle. The four-star estate in Melbourne’s Northern region, just outside of Mickleham is a world-class tourism facility like no other in regional Australia.
Luxury Homestead accomodation.
Luxury accommodation is offered in the historic homestead on the property, that was originally the family home of William Angliss built in the 1860’s. The homestead has been restored and developed into a 4.5-star hotel accommodation. Stage Two and Three of the development will also see a new vineyard, micro-brewery, cellar door, coffee roasting house, a spa health and wellness centre, complete with a children’s playground and petting zoo.
Marnong Estate and Bankvale Run Restaurant are an eye-opener. Thanks to Marnong Estate and Tyrrell PR for the visit. Highly recommended.
