World Dumpling Day Degustation at Oriental Teahouse
Celebrating World Dumpling Day, the World Loves Melbourne was invited to wine and dine at a stunning event at Oriental Teahouse featuring a six-course degustation dinner with matching beverages. Being a dumpling aficionado, and with Oriental Teahouse having a reputation for standout dumplings, this was an event not to be missed.
Oriental Teahouse’s very own dedicated dumpling experts had been working around the clock to perfect the menu which featured a massive 15 gourmet dumplings, each inspired by regions across the world. The dinner showcased the versatility of dumplings, and the flair of the Oriental Teahouse kitchen team.
Prawn Wonton Dumpling, Pan Fried Barramundi Fish Dumpling, Baked Curry Lamb Dumpling.
The degustation included six-courses with 15 different dumplings, with creative combinations such as Laksa Dumpling with mushroom and prawn; Braised Duck Leg Dumpling topped with Sichuan tea smoked duck breast and long Jing tea soup, or Scallop and Prawn Dumpling with a traditional Cantonese XO sauce, before finishing with Mini Sweet Dumplings served with ice-cream, sweet liquors and espresso, inspired by an Italian affogato.

No degustation is complete without a complementing beverage; guests could upgrade to include wine matches such as a glass of La Prova ‘Zanzara’ Pinot Bianco 2017 with the Chilli Prawn Coriander Shu Mai, a refreshing lager with the Pan Fried Australian Barramundi Dumpling and the Kunizakari ‘Muroka’ Umeshu with the Lychee and Red Bean Dumpling with coconut shavings and palm sugar sauce.

Chili Crab dumpling and Shanghai Steamed Bean Curd Duck Dumpling. The flat duck dumpling was a personal favourite.
World Dumpling Day is observed annually on 26 September as a way of applauding the many shapes, forms and flavours of dumplings that are enjoyed by hundreds of cultures around the world.
