Prahran Market's Say Cheese Festival 2019

Cheese lovers can rejoice with Prahran Market’s Say Cheese Festival, taking over the Market on Sunday 20th October. A day that showcases the very best of local, Australian and international cheeses throughout Prahran Market and Elizabeth Street, with new places to explore and graze this year. The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to the launch event.

If you love cheese, fantastic food, great wine and a convivial atmosphere, this event is not to be missed. From specialist ranges at the Market’s delicatessens to cheese-inspired creations from resident and guest eateries such as Maker & Monger, Sweet Greek, DOC Pizza & Mozzarella Bar, Wonderbao, Burn City Smokers and Q Le BAKER - there will be something for everyone and visitors will not be able to resist!

There will be pop-up bars so you can grab your favourite tipple and wander through the Market. Market Square will be the perfect location to grab a bite to eat and enjoy a drink at the newly opened Mr Hoddle or the Blackhearts & Sparrows bar on the mezzanine level, with a live DJ spinning laid back beats.

And, if you love a cheese pairing, there will be plenty of ticketed events, including from Milk the Cow and Emperor Champagne (featuring Champagne Dame). The Omega Neil Perry Kitchen will be the destination for anyone looking for some inspiration, with demonstrations from Karen Martini (Better Homes & Gardens), Kay-Lene Tan (Tonka), Shaun Quade (Grounded Food) and Joseph Vargetto (Mister Bianco, Massi) to name a few.

The Grilled Cheese Invitational is back for a second year, pitting Melbourne’s best chefs against each other to create the winning toastie, as judged by a panel of experts. Wait until you see this year’s lineup, coming soon! Once again, a competition will select the ‘wildcard’ competitor – a member of the public who thinks they can out-toastie the professionals.

Some lucky members of the audience will also get to try the toasties. This year will also see the launch of the first Picnic Box X Prahran Market 'best of ' hamper, curated by Chef Tobie Puttock. Available for pre-order, so guests can collect at the event and take home to enjoy.

Mr Hoddle Pizza on hand, as well as the picnic box hamper (right) curated by Tobie Puttock.

Tobie has chosen his favourites from amongst the very best produce from the Market, including charcuterie, dried fruit, honeycomb, artisan fruit bread, crackers and, of course, lots of different cheeses.

Priced at $75, with value well in excess of this, it will be a hot item as we head into the event. A bottle of perfectly paired wine, from Blackhearts and Sparrows, is available as an optional extra.

Cacio e Pepe is my favourite, a classic Italian dish celebrating cheese (pecorino).
