Staycation in St Kilda & Breakfast at Prince Public Bar
An overnight stay in The Prince Hotel followed by a next level breakfast in the newly renovated Prince Public Bar, provided the perfect staycation tonic we were looking for. The Prince precinct is a foodie's dream with everything at your fingertips, including a soiree at Little Prince Wine. For decades Prince Public Bar has been a much-loved watering hole in St kilda for locals, and in light of its revent renovation, is now also a go-to brunch spot.
Chilli Scrambled Eggs and sides hit the high notes.
The breakfast menu has several signatures and smash hit dishes, ranging from health conscious Coconut Chia and Sago Pudding, the Seasonal Avocado and the Peach and Cardamom Porridge, to the Brekky Burger, Manchego Roesti and Goat's Cheese Omelette. Sam went for the delicious Goat's Cheese Omelette, a perfectly formed omelette with generous amount of goat's cheese, shaved walnut, parmesan, chives and garden herbs. Big taste and great texture, the perfect start to the day. Sam ordered sides of relish and mushrooms, which complemented the dish perfectly.
Great flavours and textures with the Goat's Cheese Omelette.
I elected to go for the much talked about Chilli Prawn Scrambled Eggs featuring a generous serving of King prawns, folded eggs, compelling curry sauce and leaves, all on a bed of house made Naan. Like Sam I ordered sides (bacon and mushrooms). This dish was a triumph, being innovative and full of flavour; an Indian inspired breakfast dish is something we don't often see in Melbourne (but want to see more of).
Coffee here is also top notch, poured by the pub's trained baristas.
Prince Public Bar has stamped itself as a serious brunch destination with these dishes at a level above most cafes, definitely restaurant quality, and served by friendly engaging staff.
Before we visited Prince Public Bar, Sam and I enjoyed a fabulous stay in The Prince Hotel, a boutique hotel with well appointed guest rooms. We'd stayed here once before, and we were excited to receive the same high levels of service as before.
Attractive accomodation in the heart of St Kilda.
This time around we discovered the precinct was offering more than ever with the revamped Prince Public Bar and the gem of Little Prince Wine (an experience we paid for just to clarify), as well as the Prince Dining Room (where we dined last time).
Having such boutique accomodation in the heart of St Kilda with close access to so many features and attractions, is fabulous. The Prince Hotel preserves the property's original art deco architecture, and draws cues from its St Kilda beachside location. Rooms offer tranquility, custom furniture, private commissioned photography, and excellent bathroom features. Free wi-fi was a winner, as was availability of parking on the property.
If you're looking for a hotel for your next business trip, romantic weekend away or any other type of staycation, The Prince Hotel is the place to be. A soiree at Little Prince Wine is also recommended, where you can order fabulous dishes to complement the outstanding range of local and international wines. And of course the breakfast!
Breakfast is available at the pub from 7am - 11.4am on weekdays and from 8am - 11.45am on weekends. Highly recommended.
