Celebrating 100 Years of Morris House

Morris House has seen a century of history, and what better way to honor its legacy than with a stunning 4-course meal that traverses time? At a VIP event (thank you Sense Communications for the invite), we savored iconic favourite dishes that felt like a journey through Melbourne’s culinary past, crafted by Executive Chef Christian Abbott.

We began in the 1970s with a Pate en croute—rich, nostalgic, and generously portioned, served with tarragon mustard and cornichons.

Then came the ultimate surf and turf, a homage to the 60s and 80s. The Lobster Thermidor was divine, cooked to perfection and paired with a luxurious Café de Melbourne butter. Enjoyed with crisp William Fevre Petit Chablis this was a match made in heaven.

Another highlight was the Beef Wellington—tender, wrapped in a flaky crust, accompanied by parsnip purée and truffle jus. Add sides of charred greens and roast potatoes, and it was indulgence overdrive (kinda like the 80s). Enjoyed with Giant Steps Pinot Noir.

Dessert took us to the 90s with a Manhattan Cherry Trifle that left us with a sweet nostalgia.

The recently reimagined Morris House @Morrishousemelbourne is an exciting 4-storey drinks, dining & entertainment venue blending class and approachability in the heart of the city. We dined in the lower level’s classic dining room, a space that oozes style with its views of Exhibition St, chic lighting, coffered ceiling, and elegant wainscoting.
