Cats The Musical Loves Melbourne
Following its triumphant season in London’s West End, the acclaimed revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical CATS comes to Australia for a strictly limited season, starring DELTA GOODREM in the prized role of Grizabella. Opening in Melbourne at The Regent Theatre then touring to Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, CATS is set to have audiences purring with pleasure. The World Loves Melbourne walked the red carpet and had an amazing night at CATS in the iconic Regent Theatre. What a performance!
The World Loves Melbourne loves musical theatre. There's nothing like a live performance; the culmination of loads of hard work and creativity, with the finest of performers on show. For us to get to walk the red carpet was a buzz! In typical style, Melbourne turned on 40 degree summer heat before a massive cool change hit just before the musical began.
The cast of CATS was simple brilliant, with a high point being Delta Goodrem singing "Memory". The highlights were in fact thick and fast with the whole cast singing "Skimbleshanks" being another notable moment. The energy of the characters is something to behold; it's all action!
Delta Goodrem brings a young trendy playful feel to the Grizabella role with a fresh zest and passion. Her vocal ability is world class and the role is the perfect (purrfect) fit for this star vocalist and performer. At one stage the audience started cheering as Delta reached a crescendo in her performance of "Memory".
Andrew Lloyd Webber has revisited the production himself with nuances and changes that enhance. Even some slick "rapping" in the mix.
CATS is premium when it comes to musicals, with rave reviews at every turn, and this revival of the musical has been simply stunning. With Delta Goodrem in a starring role, the star power is evident, and CATS is a must see in the festive season.
The 2015 Olivier award nominated hit revival, which was reworked for the most recent season in the West End by the original creative team received excellent reviews and extended its season due to overwhelming demand.
Receiving outstanding reviews, this new production extended its London season due to overwhelming public demand. Now audiences here will see the same staging, which reunited the original creative team to give the show a modern makeover and bring CATS back to the West End after a 12 year absence.
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is alive with highly entertaining feline characters and wonderful witty verse, as the Jellicle Cats come out to play in a larger-than-life junkyard on the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new life.
One of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history, CATS has enchanted more than 73 million people in over 300 cities around the world, winning numerous awards including Olivier and Tony awards for Best Musical.
The costumes are simply extraordinary. If you have never seen CATS we highly recommend this production. If you've never seen it, then indulge in this arts and musical sensory feast and enjoy one of the most superb productions of all time.
Kudos to Andrew Lloyd Webber; the composer of some of the world’s best known musicals including Cats, Evita, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard.
What a great night out; the perfect evening for you and your friends to enjoy. The audience gave the performance a standing ovation. Musical theatre at it's finest in a rare opportunity! Featuring a fantastical set, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s magnificent score that includes the poignant hit song ‘Memory’, dazzling choreography and stunning costumes, CATS is a brilliant song and dance spectacular – you won’t believe your eyes!
