Co-creator of Offspring debuts at The Como Melbourne for MGallery Literary Collection
The MGallery Literary Collection of events which launched earlier this year at Mount Lofty House in the Adelaide Hills rolled into Melbourne, with The Como Melbourne hosting a literary night to remember. The World Loves Melbourne was invited to a rich night of top class hospitality from The Como Melbourne and compelling literary inspiration from Debra Oswald.
The Como Melbourne hosted a 4-course dinner complete with French Champagne in the penthouse while Debra Oswald, author of Useful and co-creator of the successful TV series Offspring talked through what it takes to write and create successful TV shows and novels. The World Loves Melbourne gleaned pearls and tips from Debra, a bold writer who is not afraid to kill off a central character or two. We were able to get a copy of her new book and get it signed, while receiving some advice on literary style in the genre of blogging.
The event was compared by a Sarah Greentree from The Wheeler Centre and guests enjoyed a lively discussion with Oswald, who is also responsible for writing scripts for The Secret Life of Us, Police Rescue and everyone’s favourite, Bananas in Pyjamas.
Cast members of Oswald’s hit TV shows were in attendance, along with a number of her co-writers.
In April 2015, the MGallery Collection of nine hotels in Australia announced a literary collaboration with The Wheeler Centre, the cornerstone of Australia’s literary activity.
‘The MGallery Literary Collection with The Wheeler Centre’ brings a breath of literary elegance to each hotel in the MGallery Collection that already evoke their own memorable story which can be experienced through the hotel’s unique characteristics.
The Wheeler Centre drives the development and celebration of literature, fostering broad public engagement in books, writing and ideas. Through The Wheeler Centre, Australian writers are introduced to the MGallery Collection and take up residence in one of the hotels for three nights. The writer then creates an exclusive short story inspired by their stay experience.
A Literary Collection of short stories will be published into an edition de luxe, and released as an epilogue to the collaboration, exclusively for all MGallery Collection hotels in Australia.
As part of the collaboration, literature enthusiasts are invited to share in this experience at an ‘In Conversation’ event with the writer, where a lively discussion should be expected, accompanied by fine wine and delicious food.
