Windows that overlook the Yarra River and Southbank Promenade are immediately breathtaking upon walking into the 27th floor apartment. Looking through the glass remains an intriguing past time for the whole weekend. Evening lights that illuminate the city create the illusion of sleeping in the sky; a flash of pink remains for a few moments before dawn; morning sun breaks through the clouds and shines on the glassy exteriors of high rises; the perspective is always changing. One of the best things to do in Melbourne is to take an actual getaway in the city!
The apartment rooms are equipped with a range of facilities, perfect for long or short stays. A gym can be found on the 28th floor, with similarly stunning views that should be motivation enough to keep running on that treadmill.
Punthill Northbank’s cafe and bar [Mini Bar] is located on the ground floor next to reception. An all morning breakfast menu is on offer; Avocado + Whipped Feta Smash, Toasted Banana Bread with Mascarpone, tangy Passionfruit curd + Pistachios, and a fresh Fruit Salad + Granola were our choices for the weekend.
Lunch can be a shared affair, and is available from 12pm onwards. Mezze boards with cured meats, cheeses, pickles and condiments are colorfully served on wooden chopping boards. A Three Grain Salad with poached chicken, crunchy nuts and seeds, sweet and sour cranberries and capers, herbs and a zingy lemon and cumin yogurt is also a beautiful and fresh addition to lunch. Trivia cards can be found on all of the cafe tables for the important purpose of entertainment, the exchange of puzzled looks and laughter.
Punthill Northbank is right in the heart of Melbourne, with nearby public transport giving travelers access to the Docklands business precinct, Melbourne central business district and an extensive range of shopping outlets.
Exploring on foot is the option we chose as the hotel is only a short walk from restaurants, cafes and all kinds of nightlife hotspots.
