Highlights announced for Melbourne Food and Wine Festival presented by the Bank of Melbourne (MFWF) 2016
The World Loves Melbourne was invited to the stunning media launch party of MFWF for 2016 at Eureka Tower. Melbourne Food and Wine Festival is a premium festival on the Melbourne calendar. This was emphasised with culinary heavyweights at the launch party including Matt Preston, Teague Ezard, Guy Grossi, Scott Pickett, Adam D'Sylva and others, and the announcement of the exciting program.
We imbibed at a private residence on level 82 - a unique and stylish location to launch MFWF16.
Stunning views and fine entertainment were a perfect backdrop to this premium festival launch. There's a sense of finery about the MFWF with top notch talent from overseas for the masterclasses and a series of superb foodie events in 10 action packed days (and nights).
Highlights of MFWF? MFWF’s globally acclaimed opening day event, the Bank of Melbourne World’s Longest Lunch, will stretch along the iconic main straight of Melbourne’s Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit on Friday 4 March 2016, entertaining more than 1,600 guests with a menu by Guy Grossi.
This spectacular experience – just one from a diverse program of events – will launch ten convivial days (4 – 13 March) of food loving revelry across Victoria.
Extending Australia’s favourite celebration of eating and drinking to Victoria’s provincial corners, 20 Regional World’s Longest Lunches will be held simultaneously on Friday 4 March. Festival-goers will experience the best of local produce in breathtaking locations including Kilkunda Trestle Bridge, Lake Daylesford and beneath Lorne’s iconic Norfolk Pines.
In the City of Melbourne, food lovers of all ages will discover regional flavours along the River Graze, (4 – 6 March). Stops on the map include a secret garden opening party (Federation Square) and City Cellar, a regional Victorian wine tasting (lawns at Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre). At the epicenter in Queensbridge Square, Festival Hub: The Urban Dairy (4 – 13 March) will showcase the world’s leading cheese, yoghurt and ice-cream makers.
MFWF’s hallmark MasterClass series (5 – 6 March) returns in 2016 to a new location, Federation Square’s Deakin Edge, featuring an international chef line up including May Chow (Hong Kong), Christian and Manuel Costardi (Italy), Paul Cunningham (Denmark), Derek Dammann (Canada), Pierre Koffmann (UK) and Jocelyn Myers-Adams (South Africa).
Travelling further along the Yarra River, Richmond’s Glasshouse will host the esteemed Wine Program (5 – 6 March), including Acqua Panna Global Wine Experience, Acqua Panna Perfect Match and The Boardroom Sessions, an exclusive new Festival event hosted by Australian wine authorities including Max Allen.
An innovative collective of events dreamt up by Victoria’s food and wine industry, including Luxembourg by Tram, Lady Carolina’s Latin American Street Food Fiesta and Camp out at Heide, will deliver once in a lifetime experiences that can only be enjoyed during the MFWF in March.
