Gastronomique by Anglicare 2016
The World Loves Melbourne attended the annual Gastronomique gala food and wine charity night for Anglicare Victoria with Victoria's finest chefs united for a great cause. Around 20 of the State’s top chefs came together to cook for 500 guests to help raise funds for vulnerable children.
Heads up - this is one of the best events on the Melbourne calendar. This is a premium evening of sensational food and wine, conviviality, entertainment and importantly, the meaning, the soul and the hope that is displayed through Anglicare.
The World Loves Melbourne imbibed at the Estelle table with Scott Pickett cooking up a storm. Thanks Scott - perennial supporter of Gastronomique!
We enjoyed meeting people at our table including a gentleman who worked for Anglicare declaring it to be the best place to work ever... He wakes up in the morning pumped to go to work and telling us how just seeing the difference made in lives is a tremendous reward. The World Loves Melbourne doesn't meet many people who rave about their work in this way, so we found it both refreshing and inspiring (an insiders' perspective). He told us that he came from a hectic corporate background, and that working for Anglicare was far more satisfying in helping vulnerable children.
Green tomato, burrata and olive by Scott Pickett and Estelle a superb first dish. We love a burrata!
Pork jowl and fillet with heirloom carrots and golden raisin, green asparagus polonaise by Scott Pickett and Estelle. Cooked to perfection, and The World Loves Melbourne is a jowl junkie...
Rum creme, butterscotch crumb, lime marshmallow, coconut snow. A seriously excellent dessert with texture party and standout rum creme.
Among the chefs who donated their time, produce and expertise were Adam D’Sylva from Coda and Tonka, Dusty Treweek from Bottega, Daniel Kranjcic from Cecconi’s Flinders Lane, Ashly Hicks from Circa, Scott Pickett from Estelle, Matt Dempsey from Gladioli, Perry Schagen from The Graham, Daniel Wilson from Huxtable, Zac Cribbes from Lucy Lui, Sonia Anthony from Masons of Bendigo, Stuart Munro from Merricote, Peter Roddy from Noir, Anthony Hammel from Pei Modern, Oliver Gould from Stokehouse City, Stuart Bell from Ten Minutes by Tractor, Andy Harmer from The Point, Ben Piggot from Supernormal, Brad Simpson from The Smith, Tony Twitchett from Taxi Kitchen and Nicky Riemer from Union Dining.
We also checked out the food from some of the other tables - all top notch!
Paul McDonald, CEO Anglicare Victoria said: “If you love food, wine and want to support the state’s most disadvantaged and vulnerable children then don’t miss Gastronomique. It is a magnificent three course culinary journey”. Now in its 12th year, Gastronomique includes signature dishes, fine wine and entertainment. PLAN TO BE THERE NEXT YEAR!
