Driving down High Street, Armadale you will spot the steady stream of regulars waiting patiently for their daily caffeine fix at the familiar and intimate Street Talk Café. The venue caters to discerning coffee drinkers from all walks of life and the space exudes a warm, rustic ambience.
The Mighty Ducks is a chartopper when it comes to fritters; featuring zucchini, cauliflower and haloumi fritters, 5 spice duck breast, lemon tahini yoghurt, soft herb salad, toffee glass chards, with butter and sage jus. This is one savvy brunch dish, a cacophony of textures and flavours.
French toast baby! Challah French Toast squares, stewed apple, seasonal fruits, mascarpone, Tim Tam sand and espresso caviar. What a description and what a dish!
The pleasant waft of sweet Challah French toast will fill your nostrils and the famous house coffee will clear your head and jumpstart your ticker. Street Talk Café is the brainchild of Dean Fouritz and is a simple celebration of coffee and delicious, locally sourced produce, culminating in hearty, wholesome fare. Greek, Italian and Middle Eastern spices are fused in what can simply be described as flavours with extraordinary substance. The ‘Iron Mike’ is a fine case in point and showcases sautéed cauliflower florets, fresh green peas, yellow lentil puree, toasted chickpeas, burnt lemon, poached eggs, almond flakes and oregano salt. Food presentation is considered, delicate, not over the top but still perfect and pretty for that Instagram snap.
Street Talk has quickly earned an enviable reputation for its coffee and launched its own coffee enterprise at the end of last year, ‘The Agency Espresso’. Fouritz has a passion for the South American variety and concocted the famous ‘5th Avenue’ blend from specialty grade beans that have origins in Guatemala, Panama, Brazil and Colombia. Fouritz only uses South American coffees because of their natural sweetness and most recently unveiled his hottest innovation, ‘Project Andes” which consist of Brazilian, Colombian and Guatemalan origins. ‘The Agency Espresso’ has become so popular that it is now wholesaling its two blends across Melbourne, Australia’s coffee heartland.

Fouritz is obsessed with food. Growing up, Fourtiz would spend his weekends feasting at BBQ’s with the extended Greek family, where you would find Dean in the kitchen helping his mother and grandmother prepare the family feast. Food is a way of life for Fouritz and he spends hours trawling over recipes, watching cooking shows and surfing Instagram for the latest food trends. ‘Food has no boundaries’ Fourtiz explains, ‘no right and wrong, it’s about finding unique and interesting flavours that bind together. I think cooking truly is an art, if you don’t have a passion for what you do in our industry, it will simply just devour you physically and mentally.
So much care and flair goes into each dish.
Another "wow" dish is the Lock Stock and Two Smoking Salmon featuring roasted bagel crumbs, dill and orange cream cheese, beetroot gel, Nordic salmon, candied stone fruit, tomato and caper concasse with avocado mousse. Crunch, creaminess, sweet, sour, fresh produce - it has it all.
It is this very passion that has spawned a destination café in Armadale and a coffee enterprise that is fast making its mark in Melbourne.
