Pepperjack Shiraz #MadeforSteak Event at South Press

Red wine and steak are the perfect match. Everyone knows that. It was amazing to attend the Made for Steak event featuring Pepperjack Shiraz and Hopkins River Beef at South Press Winehouse in South Yarra. As steak and shiraz aficionados, David and Ted from The World Loves Melbourne were delighted to attend this premium event with select media. World class wine and steak.
Richard Mattner Head winemaker at Pepperjack Wine and Adam North from South Press Winehouse once again teamed together to explore the beautiful pairing of steak and shiraz. Richard and Adam ran a compelling interactive and delicious masterclass that was delightfully intimate and bespoke. I have to admit the Pepperjack Shiraz has been a go-to wine in our family; consistent, delicious and a chart topper. Pepperjack is of course from the Saltram stable.
Pepperjack winemaker Richard Mattner was engaging and showed us why the Pepperjack Shiraz 2015 and Graded Collection McLaren Vale 2014 are the two perfect partners for all things steak. "It took almost two years to perfect the Graded Collection wines - the relationship between red wine and beef is exquisite, with wine providing tannins that help to cut through the succulent flavours of the steak," Richard said.
In partnership with steak expert and meat entrepreneur Adam North, co-owner of Melbourne wine house South Press, the trending hashtag #MadeForSteak is the go-to destination for steak and wine inspiration. The South Press venue was stunning for the event; if you haven't been upstairs in the private room then make sure you do as it's a hidden Melbourne gem. In fact the service from staff throughout the night was top notch.
Adam North took us through a fabulous masterclass working with the premium cuts of meat and talking about the perfect wine pairing. Adam said the collaboration is a fantastic way to highlight the relationship between red wine and beef, with the Pepperjack Graded wines considered to be the perfect partners to scotch fillet and porterhouse steaks respectively. "Usually people will match food to wine, but these Pepperjack Wines have been specifically matched to not only food, but steak in particular," he said.
Not only were we treated to a masterclass with Richard and Adam but a fabulous dinner demonstrating the food and wine pairing. Canapes were moorish.
Charcuterie was on song.
Terrine was first class.
Then it was time for the amazing steak; cooked on indirect heat and medium rare juicy with some char, and delivered with sides.
We were all raving about the Pepperjack and steak match for a sensational dinner!
Pepperjack Shiraz shows what the Barossa Valley does best, rich, honest and vibrant reds of consistent quality. Since its release Pepperjack Shiraz has become Australia’s Number 1 red wine by value and it’s Cabernet Sauvignon is Australia’s Number 1 Cabernet Sauvignon priced $19 and above.
Pepperjack is a tribute to the Barossa's rich heritage. The winemaking team has respect for traditional winemaking techniques and is also dynamic and imaginative. The Pepperjack winemakers are conscious of modern wine styles, and are creating wines that reflect their passion for this special region.
The Pepperjack wines are rich and honest - showcasing the Barossa's outstanding qualities. Richard told me he always looks to make improvements to the wine and you can discern nuances across vintages. Thanks to Richard Mattner, Treasury Wine Estates, Adam North and Hopkins River Beef and South Press, as well as Soda Communications for an epic evening.
