Cru + (pronounced Cru Plus) is an edgy cafe in stunning The Glen Shopping Centre in Glen Waverley making waves with it's now famous Salted egg yolk croissants and DIY lunch bentos. The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to experience Cru + dishes for a Sunday brunch. This is a cafe with verve and vibrancy bringing a great example of a modern cafe to Melbourne.
Each dish is well thought out, delicious but also bringing a sense of theatre and visual appeal. You could say Cru + is a treat for the five senses. The cafe space itself is open with marble features and a sense of space and design flow. The World Loves Melbourne was invited along to experience some of the dishes for a Sunday brunch. Being a local it was thrilling to see such a high calibre cafe in the local area. It's another example of high class offerings in the burbs.
First things first. Five Senses coffee was on point.
Now famous Salted egg yolk croissant is a must order. Savoured every mouthful of this sweet treat.
The fact that Cru + is a high class cafe and patisserie inside a shopping centre is significant in itself. A cafe without walls is appealing and seamlessly merges into the reimagined The Glen Shopping Centre. Kevin Li, the creative genius behind Lights in the Attic and Crux and Co. has done it again with Cru +, a story of innovation and future trends. The inspiration for Cru + we are told comes from Tokyo train stations and the high tea experience of the Orient Express. A touch of luxe and purposeful curation. Designed by EAT architects, the space is captivating, featuring velvets and steel.
Pork Benny with pulled char-siu pork, wasabi onion, miso hollandaise on pumpkin loaf was a highlight.
Maple Toasted Granola was a delightfully presented crunchy creamy and tasty healthy dish.
Where food and fashion collide with this stunning Smoked Chicken Salad beautifully presented in a box. Just pour the dressing over the salad to your taste.
Croissant game is strong with this Ham, tomato, Swiss cheese croissant served with zesty salad.
Don't come here to find typical Melbourne staples but rather brunch reimagined. You will marvel at the technique of some of the dishes. Some look like they belong in the NGV with their visual appeal.
Cru + is also a patisserie with amazing baked creations.
Coffee is always a big deal in Melbourne cafes and the coffee offering here is top notch using Five Senses coffee. We ordered from the brunch menu and the range of dishes is impressive including customised options to build your own brunch, lunch or dinner.
Cru + is a game changer in Glen Waverley. Highly recommended.
