Dining with Sun Kitchen and Guojiao 1573 at Australian Open 2020
Sun Kitchen the premium Sichuan and Cantonese dining experience in Melbourne has popped up at the Australian Open with a first class restaurant marquee, featuring Guojiao 1573 drinks (major sponsor of Australian Open). The World Loves Melbourne (David and Gary) was invited along to enjoy dishes from both the Grand Slam Menu and the Australian Open Set menu, complemented with Guojiao 1573. You can book your table and experience this premium dining experience yourself! We have enjoyed hospitality across the Australian Open and highly rate this one as unique and first class in every way. We were also superbly hosted by Ronda and her team at this location by the Grand Slam Oval East.
Special limited edition Guojiao 1573 produced for the Australian Open is eye catching. The spirit is clear and has a distinctive attractive aroma, and we get peachy and fruity melon notes across the palate with slight sweetness. We also find this spirit to be versatile across dishes.
Our luxe dining experience started with Luzhou Laoijiao 1573 Infused Drunken Abalone with Jellyfish with Ginger. A flagship dish at Sun Kitchen this is stunningly presented with sophisticated flavours.
Salt and Pepper Calamari was wonderfully crispy with perfectly cooked fresh seafood. Each course enjoyed with premium Guojiao 1573 spirit, that perfectly complements the Chinese cuisine.
Golden Crispy Tofu is another signature of Sun Kitchen and one of my favourite dishes in Melbourne, from the Australian Open Set Menu. Melt in your mouth tofu! Sun Kitchen is one of Melbourne's finest restaurants, located in Albert Park and it is fabulous they have popped up at the iconic Australian Open.
Pouring the luxe but approachable Guojiao 1573.
Lobster San Choi Bao is another fabulous dish from the Australian Open Set Menu. I was recommended to use my hands for this dish, wrapping up the lettuce leaf and savouring the hit of wonderful lobster pieces with the crunch of lettuce.
Chinese Spiced Smoked Duck Breast with Guojiao Spirit of China, was exceptional, with pink tinge of the duck. Perfectly cooked duck breast with smoky nuances and matching spirit.
This was followed by Seared Wagyu Tataki with Sichuan Sauce paired with Guojiao 1573. High quality elegant melt in your mouth Wagyu with heat in the sauce, set off by the spirit pairing.
Another highlight was the Lobster Dumpling in Prawn Consommé, with Crispy Noodle. The consommé itself is a magnificent broth that you want to mop up with a spoon. This is a rich luxe dish that thrills the palate, and takes the dumpling genre of cuisine to a higher level of sophistication.
Wok fried Lobster with Ginger and Spring Onion was an absolute highlight. It's amazing how Guojiao 1573 spirit sets off the lobster.
Main courses of Sichuan Spiced Lamb Ribs and Kung Pao Venison with Peanut were stunning examples of what Sun Kitchen is capable of, bringing the "spirit of China". Guojiao 1573 spirit is perfect for both Cantonese and Sichuan cooking.
Delightful cocktail featuring Guojiao 1573 spirit is one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time.
Dessert hit the high notes featuring Guojiao Raindrop Jelly with Pineapple Compote & Osmanthus Flower. Delicate dessert with great flavours and textures.
The vibe of the Sun Kitchen pop up is one of finery and an oasis at the Australian Open in terms of sophisticated delicious dining.
Like whiskey, "Baijiu" is a distilled spirit. Located in the southern part of Sichuan, Luzhou is known as the "Baijiu City", with a history of Baijiu making for more than 1,000 years. Since the Ming Dynasty, over 36 Baijiu workshops had gradually consolidated & developed into an enormous national enterprise. The 1573 National Treasure Cellars have been used for more than 440 years, earning its honorary title of "Brewing Living Cultural Relic".
We checked out the intimate 1573 Arena where many high class tennis games are played.
We also visited the exclusive Guojia 1573 Lounge.
Extraordinary cocktails and a fabulous 1573 can which we were able to take into Rod Laver Arena.
High class refreshing cocktails and we love the tennis panda!
We finished the memorable evening by watching top tennis players in the world at Rod Laver Arena thanks to Sun Kitchen and Guojiao 1573.
