Into the Vines X Boris Portnoy
Into Coffee on Robert St Collingwood is hosting Into the Vines X Boris Portnoy this Thursday, 9th May, featuring a masterclass with Jay Bessel and Boris Portnoy (Gray and Gray and All Are Welcome) and wine tasting.
Each month Into the Vines bring in 5 wineries to the coffee shop- transforming it into a mini wine bar for three hours in order to introduce people to boutique makers. With Eurovision around the corner, this month they chose to focus on viticultural roads less travelled, and they've rounded up five incredible importers who will showcase wines from viticultural roads less travelled- Slovenia, Greece, Georgia, Romania, Austria and Germany. Each importer will bring 5-6 wines each to showcase what the region is capable.
In parallel Into the Vines will run a masterclass on the hour, for 45 minutes. This masterclass will feature one wine from each country with the exception of Georgia- because they will feature two different styles of Mtsvivani.
Jay Bessel of City Wine Store/Glass Half Full Consulting will run a detailed explanation on each, and the sense of place, while Boris Portnoy will present four small bites in between the tasting flight, inspired by Eastern Europe and the Balkans. He will also offer a tasting of his own personal Mtsvivani project, of which the first delivery only arrived this week.
Bites include:
1. Grilled Brinza cheese, honey and aleppo pepper, grilled flat bread
2. Whipped potato and smoked eel with salmon roe on corn mchadi
3. Root vegetable "shuba" with pickled sardine, garlic cream, dill
4. Limousine cow Basturma, fejoa adjika on rye toast
Wines at the masterclass will be:
- Gabernik 23 Muskat Pet Nat (Slovenia, imported by Felixir)
- Papagianakkos Assyrtiko (Greece, Imported by Déjà vu)
- Pheasant’s Teas Kakhuri Mtsvivani (Georgia – Imported by Vinous Solutions)
