Mill Place Merchants Exciting New Bar
Mill Place Merchants is a hot new bar in Melbourne and we were invited to experience this classic speakeasy in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. Located in a heritage listed building dating back to the 1840s, we found Mill Place Merchants to be a unique and special destination for a catch up.
Enter through a secret entrance in Mill Place into a lamp lit moody interior with chandeliers, bluestone walls, original timber, vintage furniture, copper bar and exposed bluestone walls, with a vibe that exudes old-world charm. True character that is hard to find.
Cocktails are inspired by New York’s Prohibition Era (more potent than most cocktails around town) -
✨Monte Carlo
✨Millionaire
✨Cardinale - a classic cocktail that predates Negroni
✨Old Fashioned X 2 (60m bourbon pour not masked or watered down, one of the best I’ve had)
✨Caol Ila 12 yr old whisky
We (David and Hugh) also enjoyed -
✨Local Charcuterie and Cheese Board
✨Deviled Eggs w Yarra Valley Salmon Roe
✨Jamon Serrano Croquettes
✨Two Mini Steak, onion, ale pies
✨Whipped Cod Roe w Micro Vegetables Pickles
✨Champagne Fried Chicken with Parmesan snow, blue cheese and bourbon dip (dish of the night)
✨Duck Fries
✨Valrhona Chocolate and Single Malt Ganache
✨Traditional Vanilla and Rum Canele with rum infused Victorian cream
While the strength is in the cocktails the food exceeded expectations with simple, classic and delicious offerings. I personally enjoy this style of dining of enjoying a number of smaller dishes.
There’s an honesty and authenticity here and respect is being paid to the history and heritage of the building, as well as respect paid to speakeasy bars of yesteryear and mastering the “basics”.
Mill Place Merchants is unique and an exciting addition to the bar scene. Congrats to Paawan (a fountain of knowledge) and the passionate team including some of the best mixologists in Melbourne.
