Espolon Tequila at HER Melbourne
Espolòn Tequila X HER was an exceptional event showcasing the finest tequilas with the expertise of Mexican mixologists. Held at the iconic HER bar in Melbourne, Espolòn "To the Bone” highlighted Espolòn’s disruptive brand, which embodies the gritty and creative essence of Mexican culture.
We were invited to an incredible masterclass by Megs Miller, an Agave Expert and Owner of Salon De Agave MEX in Mexico City. Her deep knowledge of agave and passion for tequila was palpable. We were also graced with Eli Martinez, another Agave Expert and Owner of Tlecan MEX, currently ranked #9 bar in North America, at this festive occasion.
Mexican mixologists transformed the evening into a celebration of agave, culture, great cocktails, tasty Mexican food, and craftsmanship.
Espolòn Tequila, represented through its variants—Blanco, Reposado, Añejo, and Cristalino— is a fast growing and premium tequila in the market. This masterclass was not just about tasting but understanding tequila’s intricate connection to its origins.
One fascinating takeaway was the growth period of the agave plant, which ranges from 5 to 40 years, emphasizing the patience and dedication required in tequila production.
The session delved into the nuances of tequila tasting, encouraging us to explore whether the flavors were connected to coastlines with salty notes, or whether floral and fruity notes, or indeed if there were pepper and citrus undertones. The emphasis was on “tasting the earth first” and discerning any umami or savory characteristics.
We sampled various stunning Espolòn tequilas:
- Reposado: Aged and rested, offering a smooth complexity.
- Blanco: Clear, bold, and unaged, 100% Blue Weber agave showcasing raw agave power.
- Añejo: Aged longer 10 mths American oak, providing a rich and mature profile.
- Cristalino: aged crisp notes of caramelized tequila
The Espolòn Tequila X HER event was a party and celebration featuring drinks, music, education and talent, providing a profound appreciation for @espolontequilaau, tequila’s rich heritage and the artistry of its creation.
