Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmers Market Excites

Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmers Market has kept it's charm for over 17 years (since 1998) as one of the oldest farmer's markets in Victoria, held on the third Sunday of every month.Check out our Best Yarra Valley Wineries.

Crowds gather once a month on a Sunday at Yering Station's historic barn in the Yarra Valley from 9am to 2pm to enjoy the array of delights; and the incredible architecture and ambience of Yering Station.

The World Loves Melbourne was invited by the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group to experience the bustle and buzz of the markets and connect with this iconic market. Just a short drive up the Melba Highway from Melbourne and find yourself in a large rustic shed with 45-55 stalls of the finest producers. Part of the attraction is the magnificence of Yering Station, a stunning jewel of the Yarra Valley.

Speak to the producer whilst purchasing fresh seasonal fruit, juices and vegetables, locally baked bread, biscuits, delicious fudge, jams and preserves, cheeses, coffee, pasta, pizza, locally grown flowers, olives, eggs, honey, beer and cider, meat and much more...

The concept has been an outstanding success for regional producers, for local consumers and for visitors, many of whom come to the Yarra Valley specifically to check out the region's growing reputation for exceptional and exciting food and wine.

Grab yourself popular Dutch style Stroopwafels by Screaming Waffles. The World Loves Melbourne imbibed these syrup laden waffles later in a dessert - so bring some waffles home. Homemade Stroopwafels and Chocolate Brownie Waffle Cookies are all the rage, with nuance of cinnamon in a thin style. Stroopwafels are baked fresh on market day. Gluten Free is also available. This is the real deal - no premix in sight!

Also popular is the Paella from Lady Paella. The large paella pan looks amazing, and for a small price you can enjoy a bowl of hot tasty paella. The paella is gluten free, egg free and dairy free.

Seasonality is a key to the markets and The World Loves Melbourne was impressed with this plaited Organic Garlic. The Yering Station barn was packed on a fine Melbourne day and we enjoyed the sense of community with foodies appreciating the fine quality produce.

Organic breads are in demand and Fruition sells fresh high quality organic breads baked in a wood fired oven. Their approach is holistic, and Iain uses a beautiful little two-arm mixer to craft his dough and massage in olives and selected fruits to produce a variety of breads, including focaccia and fruit bread. An Alan Scott wood fired oven completes the baking process.

Fresh produce is in abundance and we grabbed some alluring Pink Lady apples to take home.

Rachael The Pie Lady pleases with her array of pies and baked goods including sensational muffins. Yarra Valley Homemade Pies & Cakes uses local produce and strives to produce a product that is nutritious and yummy while maintaining its homemade quality. They produce a wide variety of pies: pumpkin, potato & leek; vegetable shepherds, cheese, potato & onion, cauliflower, broccoli & cheese, Thai chicken & veggie; chicken, mushroom & leek; lasagne in a pie; meat shepherds; beef & burgundy; steak & kidney; plain steak; steak mushroom; and steak onion. Pastie in a pie is a classic!

Anyone for cider? How about Giverny Estate Kiwi Fruit Sparkling Cider?

Ricci's Bikkies offers market goers an array of BBQ sauces (Wasabi not too hot!) and sumptuous flavoured baked pita breads.

Yarra Valley Regional Food Group Farmer's Market is not just about savoury foods and the sweet Fudge by Fudge by Rich is tempting.

Some of the stalls are located outside of the shed as the market has expanded.

La Petite Creperie Breiz is a highlight near the car park entrance, serving savoury crepes such as prosciutto, mushroom and cheese, or the sweet crepes including Maple Syrup, Caramel and Lemon and Sugar.

Market goers love to enjoy the Yering Station facilities to imbibe their foodie purchases...

Blossom's Organics; teas, blends, seeds, powders, condiments, all Certified Organic and on trend for healthier eating lifestyles.

We also enjoyed a private tasting at Yering Station cellar door; featuring the Estate Grown and Reserve Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Shiraz Viognier styles.

A wine tasting masterclass was a highlight, with a superb discourse given on the colour, bouquet, style, description, and smoothness across the palate, of each Yering Station wine.

Cellar door at Yering Station is always a popular destination, as is Matt's Bar upstairs with it's sweeping views.

We witnessed Shannon Bennett arriving in a helicopter; with Yering Station not without a touch of glamour. Thanks to Brook and the Yarra Valley Regional Food Group for our visit.
